Or Question Everything?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Microbe<br \/>by Hilaire Belloc [1870-1953]<\/p>\n<p>The Microbe is so very small<br \/>You cannot make him out at all,<br \/>But many sanguine people hope<br \/>To see him through a microscope.<br \/>His jointed tongue that lies beneath<br \/>A hundred curious rows of teeth;<br \/>His seven tufted tails with lots<br \/>Of lovely pink and purple spots,<br \/>On each of which a pattern stands,<br \/>Composed of forty separate bands;<br \/>His eyebrows of a tender green;<br \/>All these have never yet been seen&#8211;<br \/>But Scientists, who ought to know,<br \/>Assure us that they must be so&#8230;<br \/>Oh! let us never, never doubt<br \/>What nobody is sure about!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_nIccA6r7lXY\/SLglEJBkAQI\/AAAAAAAAAuE\/-GU7bg4-HWk\/s1600-h\/questions.png\" target=_blank title=\"click to enlarge in new window\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/writingya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/questions.png\" align=right hspace=10><\/a>The last two lines of this poem are quoted by Gene Wilder in the original <i>Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory<\/i> (1971). Even though I&#8217;m pretty sure the whole cast and crew were on drugs when it was filmed, I love that weird old movie; the book is even more strange. <\/p>\n<p>I love that the Wilder&#8217;s lines, as written by screenwriter David Seltzer, are just <i>packed<\/i> with poetry, which was fun for both the adults and the kids.
