Have you checked out the Sixth Annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mitaliblog.com\/2008\/07\/fire-escapes-2008-short-fiction-third.html\" target= _blank>Fire Escape Poetry and Short Fiction<\/a> Contests winners and runners-up at Mitali&#8217;s? Some WORDSMITHS growing up here, people. Serious wordsmiths. Wow. Third place is blowing me away. I&#8217;m a little scared to see the winners.<\/p>\n<p>Laurie Halse Anderson (she of the fabulously sculpted arms) continues to encourage and badger us toward our <a href=\"http:\/\/halseanderson.livejournal.com\/200824.html\" target= _blank>fifteen minutes a day<\/a>. It seems so little, but can turn into much more!<\/p>\n<p>Via <a href=\"http:\/\/nancyfriedman.typepad.com\/away_with_words\/2008\/07\/new-words.html\" target= _blank>Fritinancy<\/a>, a great discovery: bloggers did <i> not <\/i> make up the word &#8216;fanboy.&#8217; Fangirl, possibly, but fanboy has been around <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/n\/a\/2008\/07\/07\/national\/a114607D83.DTL&#038;hw=merriam&#038;sn=001&#038;sc=1000\" target= _blank>since 1919<\/a>. That the word &#8216;edamame&#8217; has just <i>now<\/i> gained enough in terms of usage to be included in the dictionary clearly indicates that Merriam-Webster&#8217;s offices are not in California!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wowza.
