I was living in Santa Rosa and driving a <i>very<\/i> long way to Oakland to my first year of grad school. I was reading Tim O&#8217;Brien&#8217;s <i>The Things They Carried<\/i> and doing a lot of wincing as it by turns horrified me and blew me away with its consistent and descriptive narrative style.<\/p>\n<p><b style=\"color: rgb(255, 102, 102);\">What are five things on your to-do list for today (not in any particular order)?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul><\/p>\n<li>Untangle this chapter&#8217;s plot knots currently strangling my manuscript,<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>See if that weird wet spot on the floor in the guest room is still there, and find out what caused it,<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Shop for lightweight walking shoes (sandals),<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Call the chick from the Property Bureau (actual name of company) and arrange to see flat,<\/li>\n<p><\/p>\n<li>Scrub the bathtub and finish the wash.<\/li>\n<p><\/ul>\n<p>(Yes. That&#8217;s my VERY exciting life.
