Unfortunately, I don&#8217;t think I can adhere to that. For instance, today, while looking up something completely unrelated, I found this great article in favor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/g\/a\/2008\/04\/01\/petscol.DTL\">legalizing ferrets in California<\/a>&#8211;because we&#8217;re the last holdout state besides Hawaii where ferrets are still illegal to keep as pets. <a onblur=\"try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}\" href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/_AS3Nr1ChgcU\/R_J6tL0GMII\/AAAAAAAAATg\/2xwigvVOHbI\/s1600-h\/Beastmaster.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"float:right; margin:10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;\" src=\"https:\/\/writingya.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/04\/Beastmaster.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\"id=\"BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5184341037740863618\" \/><\/a>This always amazed me. And, as a child, it sorely disappointed me. Like many other kids my age, I saw the movie <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0083630\/\">The Beastmaster<\/a> and immediately started begging my parents for furry ferret pets. Of course, walking into the pet store you&#8217;d never know they were actually illegal, since you can buy all manner of ferret books, food, and elaborate tunnel complexes. Sadly, my ferret window has closed, anyway&#8211;I&#8217;m pretty sure our cats would want to chomp them.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, back to the actual topic of YA writing: Children&#8217;s Writer&#8217;s and Illustrator&#8217;s Market blogger <a href=\"http:\/\/cwim.blogspot.com\/\">Alice Pope<\/a> has co-written a how-to book&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Writing-Selling-Young-Adult-Novel\/dp\/1582975159\/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&#038;s=books&#038;qid=1206543473&#038;sr=8-1\">Writing and Selling the YA Novel<\/a>&#8211;with K.L. Going, author of Fat Kid Rules the World and other books. The book will be available next week, according to Alice&#8217;s newsletter&#8211;the Amazon link says otherwise, but check <a href=\"https:\/\/www.writersdigestbookclub.com\/\">Writer&#8217;s Digest Books<\/a>&#8211;it might be available there.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I really wish I could guarantee you that I will never again mention ferrets on this blog.
