I thought I at least owed you a peek at the new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mentalfloss.com\/blogs\/archives\/13257\" target= _blank>mental_floss &#8216;Fib&#8217; shirt<\/a> &#8212; and this is really for <a href=\"http:\/\/gottabook.blogspot.com\/2006\/04\/fib.html\" target= _blank>Gregory K, @ Gotta Book<\/a>, because he&#8217;s the original fib guy. (Very original, I might add. Have you read his <a href=\"http:\/\/gottabook.blogspot.com\/2006\/03\/oddaptations.html\" target= _blank>Oddaptations!?<\/a>) SO, that&#8217;s my two cents for math today &#8211; it&#8217;s not a pi joke, but enjoy!<\/p>\n<p><b>Sam had some good points<\/b> this week about publishing being &#8230;kind of a game. Justine Larbalestier <a href=\"http:\/\/justinelarbalestier.com\/blog\/?p=1079\" target= _blank>seems to concur, talking about the luck factor<\/a> on her blog. Hat tip to <a href=\"http:\/\/shrinkingvioletpromotions.blogspot.com\/2008\/03\/lady-luck.html\" target= _blank>Shrinking Violet Productions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Don&#8217;t Forget to Write<\/b>: Co-blogger a.fortis mentioned this week why she writes  <i>&#8220;part of the reason I write for a teen audience is that I think&#8211;I hope&#8211;that reading my work might someday help someone through a tough time, or distract someone from their own troubles.&#8221;<\/i> Disco <a href=\"http:\/\/discomermaids.blogspot.com\/2008\/03\/dont-forget-to-write-jay.html\" target= _blank>Mermaid Jay<\/a> really brings that home this week, reprinting a couple of notes he&#8217;s gotten in response to his book. Now, <i>that&#8217;s<\/i> what we&#8217;re here for. Writing. It matters. We&#8217;ve all got our Insecure Selves to deal with, but well done you, Jay Asher, for gently shutting I.J. down.<\/p>\n<p><b>Bay Area Peeps, Save the Date!<\/b> It&#8217;s the 14th Celebration of Children&#8217;s Literature at UC Berkeley on Saturday, April 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><b>As part of Cal Day<\/b>, which is the campus-wide open house, UC Berkeley&#8217;s Tolman Hall is putting on a free community celebration, celebrating children&#8217;s book. The book fair literati includes Gennifer Choldenko, Marissa Moss, Thacher Hurd, Elisa Kleven, LeUyen Pham, and quite a few more, plus musicians and bookmaking art activities, and storytelling, and more. <a href=\"http:\/\/gse.berkeley.edu\/admin\/childlit\/\" target= _blank>Do check it out<\/a> &#8212; it sounds like a lot of fun.<\/p>\n<p><b>Even though I didn&#8217;t <i>go<\/i> to public school<\/b>, I&#8217;m enjoying *my (or, rather, <a href=\"http:\/\/jkrbooks.typepad.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/thursday-aftern.html\" target= _blank>Jen Robinson&#8217;s<\/a>) recent discovery of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicschoolinsights.org\/?storyId=18948\" target= _blank>Public School Insights<\/a>, which carries an interview with our insane Ambassador, Jon Scieszka. The title? Turning Boys Into Readers. Hmmm! T-June 1st and counting, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chasingray.com\/archives\/2008\/02\/guys_lit_wire_is_moving_forwar.html\" target= _blank>GuysLit Wire<\/a> will be going live.
