It&#8217;s a lovely thing to hear read aloud.(Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.locusmag.com\/\" target= _blank>Locus Online<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>Colleen&#8217;s pulling out all the stops with her <i>12 Days of Christmas<\/i> booklists at <a href=\"http:\/\/chasingray.com\" target= _blank>Chasing Ray<\/a>. Don&#8217;t miss her <i>Cabinet of Wonders<\/i> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bookslut.com\/bookslut_in_training\/2007_12_012072.php\" target= _blank>Bookslut (in training)<\/a> where she reviews <i>Indigara<\/i> by Tanith Lee and <i>Click<\/i>, the collaborative novel that begins with a camera, Kristen Miller&#8217;s <i>Kiki Strike: The Empress&#8217; Tomb<\/i>, and of course the awesome-super-fabulous <i>Diary of a Part-Time Indian<\/i> by the one and only Mr. Alexie. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Sherman Alexie, <a href=\"http:\/\/yzocaet.blogspot.com\/2007\/12\/challenge-good-ya-books-for-boys.html\" target= _blank>Liz has challenged us<\/a> to find more good reads for guys. There IS good YA out there for the menfolk, despite what snarkers say.<\/p>\n<p>Via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsignal.com\/\" target= _blank>SciFi Signal<\/a>Darling Wesley is back &#8212; according to Amazon&#8217;s gamers blog, there&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/blog\/post\/PLNK1QV8OUHUE7YB5\" target= _blank>Princess Bride GAME<\/a> coming out. Can that movie actually be TWENTY years old?! Unbelievable. (NO, I did not say &#8216;Inconceivable.&#8217; That would have been really annoying of me.) There&#8217;s even a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vimeo.com\/414523\/\"target= _blank>game trailer<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Also via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfsignal.com\/\" target= _blank>SciFi Signal<\/a>, a really intriguing round table discussion on people of color in fantasy literature at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.darkfantasy.org\/fantasy\/\" target= _blank>Fantasy Magazine<\/a>. Authors, grad students, publishers and readers of varying hues discuss what they hate, what they love, and what they&#8217;d like to see more. I found some really interesting sideline discussions of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scalzi.com\/whatever\/2007\/07\/31\/one_more_science_fictional_lin.html\" target= _blank>writing colorblind<\/a>, as well as a definition of <a href=\"http:\/\/brutalwomen.blogspot.com\/2007\/07\/why-writing-colorblind-is-writing-white.html\" target= _blank>default writing<\/a>, where one doesn&#8217;t talk about race, but then the reader assumes that the character is from the dominant culture. This is an ongoing conversation, which will reconvene next Wednesday.
