First, I&#8217;ve read a lot of reviews of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?file=\/c\/a\/2006\/02\/10\/MNG73H6A5U1.DTL\">Curious George<\/a> phenomena, and the brouhaha from animal rights and parent groups reminds me a bit of the discussions\/arguments that came up over the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sterlingtimes.co.uk\/sambo.htm\">Little Black Sambo<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/homepage.ntlworld.com\/matt_kane\/uncle%20remus%20tales.htm\">Uncle Remus tales<\/a> we discussed at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mills.edu\">the Alma Mater<\/a>. When these books were written, it was definitely a different world, both in terms of what people thought was okay to do with people and with animals. The discussion is good, but the outrage and theater picketing, completely incomprehensible to children, is somewhat pointless&#8230; <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile does anyone know if <a href=\"http:\/\/www.purpleglitter.com\/michelle_tea\/modules\/xfsection\/article.php?articleid=510\">Michelle Tea&#8217;s latest<\/a> is supposed to be a YA novel? The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\">Chronicle<\/a> review of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.booksense.com\/product\/info.jsp?affiliateId=ReadersResponse&#038;isbn=1596921609\">Rose of No Man&#8217;s Land<\/a> talks about a 14-year-old narrator, and gives it really positive reviews for a &#8220;singular voice in a coming-of-age novel.&#8221;  Hmm.<\/p>\n<p>All right.
