Amtrak, Cybils, and TwiLove…

19-09-09_1047I saw this at the library the other day, and after I stopped laughing, I snapped a pic. Sometimes… seriously… this is a lot like train travel. The Death Bringers… death by benumbed buns.

Speaking of travel, Aquafortis is safe and sound in Italy, and would be waving hello if she could. (Yeah, right. Italy… blogging. Hmm. Which wins?) Meanwhile, with two days left before Cybils nominations close, the Science Fiction and Fantasy nominations are up to 121! It’s going to be a really exciting and hard trek to get all of those books winnowed out to the top ten in YA and MG. We’re all looking forward to it.

Remember Problem Novels? Publishers these days don’t want to touch them with a ten-foot pole, but not everyone hates them. Back in the day, they were the stuff of which ABC After School Specials were made. They informed generations, and shaped what they thought of teen pregnancy, STDs, and all those other things your parents wanted you to sit down and watch TV about, instead of discussing with them. What’s your favorite? CORA wants to know.

A work in progress, now for your listening and viewing pleasure: it’s Twilight: The Musical. It’s… painful. So, so, painful… and yet, a labor of love, and bad wigs… You know you want to watch.

About the author

tanita s. davis is a writer and avid reader who prefers books to most things in the world, including people. That's ...pretty much it, she's very boring and she can't even tell jokes. She is, however, the author of nine books, including Serena Says, Partly Cloudy, Go Figure, Henri Weldon, and the Coretta Scott King honored Mare's War. Look for her new MG, The Science of Friendship in 1/2024 from Katherine Tegen Books.

  1. Char, you should post a list of those you *wish* would be nominated. That's how I finally found one to nominate for nonfiction picture book last year — everything I nominated had already been taken, but there were tons of other worthies, and it's not illegal to …um, encourage others, methinks!

  2. Did you by any chance just see part one of my list of such books, and did it in fact inspire your recent nomination? Or is it all a huge coincidence of epic proportions????? Either way, thanks! Or is there another Tanita? (since I didn't click through to see if it was in fact you).

I can't think of a single book that isn't on the YA list that I think should be.

  3. Heh, heh.
It was all a mysterious coincidence! Truly!

I actually went LOOKING today to see if there was something missing from the list for YA that SHOULD be there… I think we've gotten everything that's come out!

  4. I just yesterday posted a few books on my blog that I thought should be on the lists that aren't, two for MG and two for YA. I think it's great if people want to post books that they've read and think are nomination-worthy as suggestions.

Keep in mind, though, it's not the number of books nominated that matters, it's the quality. I'd rather have less nominations and have them be high-quality books that deserve to be on the list, than to have a longer list just for the sake of trying to include more books.
